TSYG stands for Temple Sinai Youth Group. TSYG is open to all high schoolers entering grades 9-12. Events are planned, organized, and facilitated by members of the youth group, and supervised by our Youth Director. TSYG programming focuses on several areas – Judaic, Social Action or Tikkun Olam, and Social. Through the many different programs, TSYG’ers are able to learn about themselves and explore what it means to be part of an exciting Jewish Youth Group!
TSYG’ers participate in many different activities throughout the year. Events are held 2-3 times per month. Shul-ins, Mountain Trips, Broomball, Social Action Programs, Judaic programs and a Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser are just a few of the fun social and educational programs offered. TSYG’ers are also invited to monthly Lounge-A-Paloozas held on Wednesday nights before Religious School in the Youth Lounge. This is a great chance to take a break from homework and come socialize and eat some pizza with friends.
TSYG is a member of the Reform national youth organization entitled NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). Within NFTY, TSYG is part of the Missouri Valley Region (also known as MVR or MO-Valley) which includes seven states: Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, southern Illinois, and Kansas. NFTY Missouri Valley hosts six Regional events each year. They include: the Missouri Valley-Ohio Valley Summer Institute, Leadership Training Institute for Youth Group Board Members, Fall Chavurah, Winter Chavurah, Social Action Weekend, & Spring Chavurah. These weekends take place every 8-12 weeks and are hosted by various youth groups and congregations around the Midwest. TSYG has the opportunity to plan and run their own Chavurah every 1-2 years. Chavurot are wonderful weekends where TSYG’ers get the chance to meet other Jewish high schoolers from around
the Midwest. During the weekends they make lifelong connections and come back feeling pumped and energized! Additionally, TSYG’ers are invited to attend the semi-annual NFTY Convention held alternately in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. This is a four day event held over President’s Day Weekend and gives TSYG’ers a chance to learn, sing, dance, and pray with 1500 other NFTY-ites from around the country.
