Our Youth

About Temple Sinai Youth Programs:

Temple Sinai is all about the YOUTH CULTURE. We believe that it is important for our youth to build their own Jewish communities and develop their Jewish identity. Temple Sinai offers four youth groups for Kindergarten through 12th grade students and two supplemental middle school groups. For the post high schoolers, 18-26 years old, we offer opportunities for engagement through our Sinai Connections Program. Our goal is to help our youth find their connection to Temple Sinai!

YOUTH GROUPS

Meretz: Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
Meretz, which means “energy” in Hebrew, is a wonderful introduction to Temple Sinai Youth programs. It provides an opportunity for children and their families to learn, make friends, and connect to the Temple Sinai community! Events take place one Sunday per month, in coordination with Ruach programs, directly following Religious School from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.

Ruach: 3rd – 5th Grade
Ruach, which means “spirit” in Hebrew, provides programming for our 3rd-5th graders. It allows them a great opportunity to be social, learn and make new friends within the Temple Sinai community. Events take place one Sunday per month, in coordination with Meretz programs, directly following Religious School from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.

Junior Youth Group (JYG): 6th – 8th Grade
JYG provides opportunities for middle schoolers to be a part of an exciting youth organization which feeds directly into Temple Sinai’s senior youth group, TSYG. There are a variety of social, social action, and Judaic programs during the year. The 7th and 8th graders also have the opportunity to attend a regional chavurah (convention) in the spring with other students all over the Missouri Valley region.

Temple Sinai Youth Group (TSYG): 9th – 12th Grade
TSYG is open to all high school students. Events are planned, organized and facilitated by members of TYSG and supervised by our Youth Director. TYSGers get a variety of programming, including social, Judaic and tikkun olam or social action programs. TSYG is a member of NFTY (the North American Federation of Temple Youth). Within NFTY, TSYG is part of the Missouri Valley Region. TSYGers also have the opportunity to attend several regional chavurot (conventions) throughout the year. Through the many local and regional events, TSYGers are able to learn about themselves and explore what it means to be a part of an exciting Jewish youth group!
