The Temple Sinai Torah Project Announces:

HAVDALAH HOUSE PARTIES 

The Torah Project Education Committee, along with Rabbi Rheins, has created a very exciting program.  We are encouraging Temple Sinai members to hold a Havdalah House Party as part of our celebration of Torah.

A Havdalah House Party will start at sundown on Saturday evening (4:30 or 5:00) and will last approximately one to one and a half hours.  The program leader, usually Rabbi Rheins or Rabbi TelRav, will bring a Temple Sinai Torah to the event.

The program will start with a Havdalah service, followed by a presentation by the program leader regarding some interesting and exciting aspect of Torah.  After the presentation, the Torah will be passed from person to person and each individual will have a few minutes to share some thoughts or feelings regarding their Jewish history and/or relationship to Torah.  Participants can speak about anything that feels important to him or her.  Some suggested topics include:

 

  • Family ancestry - how the individual’s family came to the United States.
  • An aspect of the individual’s personal Jewish journey, evolution, or identity.
  • An interesting story about the person’s Jewish past or the Jewish past of his/her family.
  • The person’s relationship with Torah.  For example, when the individual first saw a Torah, what Torah story is particularly important or relevant to the individual, etc.

 

We are encouraging the host of the Havdalah House Parties to invite both, people they know and people they would like to get to know.  This would be a wonderful opportunity to share stories in the spirit of L’Dor V’Dor, from generation to generation.  We believe that these house parties are in keeping with, and will deepen, our ongoing celebration of Torah, will build community, and be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our fellow Temple Sinai congregants.

The actual format of the evening will be left to the discretion and creativity of the host.  The Havdalah House Party standard format includes a pot luck dinner after the program.   Please contact one of us if you are interested in participating in this program.
