JYG

JYG stands for Junior Youth Group (JYG). Temple Sinai's Junior Youth Group provides opportunities for 6th, 7th and 8th Graders to be a part of an exciting youth organization, which feeds directly into Temple Sinai's Senior Youth Group (TSYG) for high schoolers.

JYG'ers experience a variety of programming throughout the year. As most of the JYG’ers at Temple Sinai are in the process of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, JYG programming is based largely around social themes with the goal of getting JYG’ers to make connections and friends with other Temple Sinai middle schoolers. Being a part of JYG is an excellent way to make new friends, engage in great programs and experience “BIG JEWISH FUN” all at the same time.

JYG programs are held once a month. Past JYG programs include: Chocolate Farm, Rock Climbing, and the annual “Totally Tubular Tube-ing Trip” held in Winter Park the first Sunday in January. In addition, JYG'ers have the opportunity to attend the spectacular JYG Chavurah held annually in early spring. Chavurot are wonderful weekends where JYG’ers get the chance to meet other Jewish middle schoolers from around the Midwest. It’s a great introduction to NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth) and gets them psyched to join TSYG in 9th Grade.

JYG’ers are also invited to bi-monthly pizza parties on Monday nights before Religious School in the Youth Lounge. Pizza parties cost $3 or you can pay for the year upfront ($60) and also get JYG membership and a T-shirt.  (Programmatic prices are NOT included!) 

In the Spring, the 8th Graders take part in TSYG’s 8th Grade Rush. During this time the 8th Graders are introduced to TSYG programming & all of the TSYG’ers, they find out what TSYG is all about, and why they should join!
